Artist Painting an Iris Flower Painting – Timelapse with Commentary

Painting the Iris

Every painting starts with a moment of curiosity.
In this video, I paint an Iris flower—a timeless symbol of renewal, wisdom, and hope. The camera captures the entire process in a timelapse, while I narrate thoughts about technique, mindset, and materials.

I begin with a detailed underpainting to establish structure and value. This foundation speeds up the process and makes each layer of paint more intentional. It’s the kind of preparation that saves time later—especially when working with complex forms like petals and reflected light.

Oil vs. Acrylic: Choosing the Right Medium

One of the biggest decisions in any painting is choosing oil or acrylic.
In the video, I talk about how each behaves—the flexibility and blendability of oil versus the quick-drying discipline of acrylic. For me, acrylics are great for energy and momentum. Oils are for slowing down and letting the piece breathe.

Knowing when to switch mediums keeps the creative process from feeling rigid. It also mirrors life: sometimes you move fast, sometimes you let things settle.

It’s like a gym for creativity—a place to build consistency, share progress, and stay inspired alongside other artists. We learn together, critique together, and push each other to grow.

A Work in Progress

My videos aren’t perfect, and I’m fine with that. I’m still improving lighting, camera angles, and sound—but progress matters more than perfection. I’m learning to post more consistently and share the process as it unfolds.

This Iris painting is a snapshot of that journey: part teaching, part discovery, and part accountability.
